Where to travel in Greece based on your personality; The artsy type of traveller

2 minutes to read

The options of where to go in Greece are seemingly endless, and they all look great. Whatever you’re after, a holiday in Greece has something for everyone, it’s just a question of knowing where to look!

I’ve multiple times found myself in conversations being asked for recommendations; “where should I go in Greece? what do you suggest as a local?” and my response was always “well, what do you like? what would you like to see so that I can somehow guide you?”. To me choosing your ideal trip and planning your ideal route is definitely a matter of personality. Knowing what you like and what you’d enjoy the most while planning a big trip is somehow closely linked to the expectations you have when visiting this place. The more you know yourself, the better your research and planning will be!

To cut the story short, I’ve decided to create this series of pages during which I’ll provide you with a few routes and recommendations based always on your personality! Whether you’re an artsy traveller, a hopeless romantic soul, a devoted naturalist or a cosmopolitan adventurer, stay tuned cause I’m pretty sure that in this series you’ll find what you’re seeking for!

The artsy & loving history type of traveller

Are you one of those people who are passionate with museums, with art and with history? Are you one of those people who prefer spending a day in a museum admiring artworks of previous centuries? Or one of those who appreciate an evening in a theatre enjoying a play? Are you one of those people who get crazy excited to learn and to adjust into a city’s life & culture even if it’s for a few days?! If you have answered “yes” in more than two of those questions, I guess that’s the right page to be!

The artsy route - historical cities & landmarks that shouldn’t be missed

Athens

When booking a ticket to Greece, Athens is the first place that comes to mind; and that’s definitely understandable! Who wouldn’t want to see the mother city of democracy? Who wouldn’t want to admire Parthenon and Acropolis?! If you’re a “loving-history type of traveller”, then the Parthenon, Delphi and the Temple of Apollo, Poseidon’s temple and Epidaurus can all be found in the city of Athens and in its surroundings, and they are definitely must visit spots!

Crete

The ruins in the archaeological site of Knossos that are believed to have been the home to King Minos and the mythical Minotaur, as well as the Birthplace of Zeus & Phaistos are just a few of the top historical spots that can be found in the island of Crete.

Peloponnese

Corinth a city-state in Ancient Greece, Sparta, and Olympia that was an important site of the most famous games in history, (the Olympic games) can be spotted in Peloponnese. Wouldn’t you love to know the story behind all those?

Museums & landmarks

Visiting museums is just a must-do activity especially if you belong to the category of travellers mentioned above. Whether in Athens or not, Greece offers a variety of museums and historical landmarks that shouldn’t be missed while there. The Byzantine and Christian museum, the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, the Acropolis’ museum, the Philopappos monument and a lot more are waiting to be discovered!

Stay tuned, the second part with suggestions for our hopeless romantic audience is about to be released! Cheers!
