Description

Phaistos is an ancient city of Crete, located on the south coast of the island, in the Messara plain, a few kilometers from the sea. The cleared site consists essentially of the remains of a Minoan palace and according to Guy Rachet "it is with that of Cnossos the oldest of the Cretan palaces" 1. Unlike the archaeological site of Knossos, excavated by Arthur Evans, who carried out restorations sometimes discussed, the site remained as it was when rediscovered by Italian archaeologists. At the excavations of the early 20th century there was found the famous disc of Phaistos, object of terracotta which has been the subject of various interpretations and some of which contest the veracity. © Istock/Unknown © http://www.grece-bleue.net
