Where to travel in Greece based on your personality; The traveling naturalist

3 minutes to read

The options of where to go in Greece are seemingly endless, and they all look great. Whatever you’re after, a holiday in Greece has something for everyone, it’s just a question of knowing where to look!

I’ve multiple times found myself in conversations being asked for recommendations; “where should I go in Greece? what do you suggest as a local?” and my response was always “well, what do you like? what would you like to see so that I can somehow guide you?”. To me, choosing your ideal trip and planning your ideal route is definitely a matter of personality. Knowing what you like and what you’d enjoy the most while planning a big trip is somehow closely linked to the expectations you have when visiting this place. The more you know yourself, the better your research and planning will be!

To cut the story short, I’ve decided to create this series of pages during which I’ll provide you with a few routes and recommendations based always on your personality! Whether you’re an artsy traveller, a hopeless romantic soul, a devoted naturalist or a cosmopolitan adventurer, stay tuned cause I’m pretty sure that in this series you’ll find what you’re seeking for!

The traveling naturalist

“Without the intense touch of nature, you can never fully freshen yourself! Go for a camping and there both your weary mind and your exhausted body will rise like a morning sun!”

The traveling naturalist is the type of traveller that simply wants to throw their swimming suits away without being criticised and run on the beach like nobody's watching…It’s again those people that are always looking for remote beaches to go skinny dipping, to set their tent and camp on spot like none’s around. The people who feel the sun, who jump into the water, who play with the sand, who free theirselves and lose their mind while on holiday. The people that appreciate what the Mother Nature offers and are always up to indulging in activities such as hiking or trekking, climbing, scuba diving etc. The traveling naturalists are simply the travellers that unite with the nature upon traveling.

The naturalists’ route

Mt Olympus

When you’re thinking about the most iconic mountains of the world, I’m pretty sure that the Mt Olympus, located in Greece, has a spot in your list! Today, an estimated 10,000 people climb the peak annually, though far fewer attain the ultimate summit of Mytikas. Incredible viewpoints, natural pools, waterfalls and lush greenery guarantee an unforgettable experience while climbing!

Zagorochoria and the greek Grand Canyon

For the hiking lovers a visit should definitely be paid to the gorge of Vikos, also known as the Greek “Grand Canyon”. There’s one famous route starting at the base of the Vikos Gorge. The route takes about 6 hours and it is well marked with many signs. While trekking you’ll be able to enjoy the natural beauty of the scenery and learn about the geological phenomenons that occurred and sculpted the area in that extremely beautiful way!

At the same time and at a close proximity, Zagorohoria to give the area its full name – is a cluster of 46 small stone villages, masterfully constructed among the mountains. Traditional architecture, lovely people, incredibly natural beauty, clear rivers, mountain lakes, good food and multiple activities offered, are some of the factors that could convince you immediately to pay a visit to these amazing small villages!

Samothraki

Samothraki is one of the most magnificent islands that I’ve ever been. Recently I have read that Samotraki ranks among the 10 first undiscovered and unspoiled natural paradises worldwide. The imposing mountainous heart of the island paired with its pristine nature are just what explorers and adventure lovers could ever wish for: crossing gorges, trekking, mountaineering, mountain bike, paragliding, rafting, kayak, diving will be amongst your choices if you want to go active.

Ikaria

With its beautiful coves, rocky cliffs and steep valleys, Ikaria looks similar to a huge number of other Greek islands. High, bare, rocky mountains alternate with green slopes, while flowing streams and beaches offer extreme and magical views!

Armenistis

Armenistis is actually a campsite that invites you to a world of alternative holidays: golden beaches, crystal-clear waters, fields and trees, all combined with modern conveniences, good food and the highest standards of service. For your accommodation you can choose a tent, a caravan, a rented caravan with air conditioning and landscaped site or even, for greater comfort, a mobile home. Ideal for backpackers or for people seeking to find alternative and affordable kind of holiday!

Bonus; the most beautiful nudist beaches in Greece

While most Greek beaches are organized and perfect for sunbathing and family friendly activities, there are some more secluded places where visitors can go skinny-dipping and get in contact with nature and its pleasures! Ideal obviously for the nature lovers, here’s a list with the most stunning nudist beaches that can be found in Greece!

Stay tuned, more suggestions are about to come soon! Cheers!
