Description

723/5000 Olympia is a religious center of Greece, in the Peloponnese, more precisely in a small plain of Elide, on the right bank of the Alpheus and at the foot of Mount Cronion, and very close to the small modern city of " Olympia, about 18 km from the town of Pyrgos and the Ionian Sea. At the site site was the Altis, a sacred wood, and the Altar of Zeus. The stadium itself was in the middle of a wood of wild olive trees. The Olympia site hosted the Olympic Games during Antiquity, and today the Olympic Flame is lit a few months before the opening ceremony of the modern Olympics. All the archaeological finds are grouped in the archaeological museum of Olympia.
