The coziest place in Vilnius - restaurant Veranda

For me, Veranda restaurant is probably the coziest place in whole Vilnius. The design there is so warm and stylish, that you could feel being at home while drinking some good wine and enjoying nostalgic jazz music. There are plenty of various kinds of restaurants in Vilnius, most of them are located in the Old Town, but Veranda restaurant is located in the Žvėrynas district, three kilometres away from the Cathedral Square. If you miss the childhood summers at your grandpas, Veranda is the place that brings this nostalgic feeling back. Why Veranda?

First of all, the name Veranda means “porch”. For so many Lithuanians, Veranda is associated with the grandpas house and summers spent there. And from the outside, it looks exactly like this - the old grandpas wooden house. The restaurant’s owners tell that, in 1901, in the house where nowadays Veranda is, it was the office of Sankt Peterburg merchant's V. Martinson. And with this man’s help, Žvėrynas district became a part of Vilnius city. Together with this story, this place seems to be the heart of Žvėrynas district.

The restaurant is mostly called salon-bar but also has a great kitchen. There is not a lot of food choices there, but the food served in Veranda is worth trying. Everyone can find something - kids menu (also playground outside and playing room inside), dishes for vegans and vegetarians, great steaks and traditional Italian pasta. The meat and veggies are delivered from Lithuanian farmers, so the food is always healthy and seasonable. But the best part are the wines - in the restaurant the wine store is established as well. Wines in Veranda are selected by professional sommelier from all over the word, and there are many kinds of them.

If the wine, food and cozy design still did not steel your heart, jazz music will. Every Friday and Saturday, the restaurant become offers live jazz music. Especially in summers, when the outside terrasse is opened, all restaurant’s yard is full of lights, music and people talks, this place can steel your hearts forever. And the fact that this restaurant is away from the city center, especially in summer, becomes a big plus - no loud music from the bars or car dust - just calm and wonderful jazz music around.
