The plot of the movie

The film begins in the picturesque streets of Florence, where the young and charming Patrizia Reggiani meets the rich and charismatic Maurizio Gucci for the first time. Chemistry ignites instantly between them, and the two fall head over heels in love. Florence, with its Renaissance charm and cobbled streets, provides a romantic backdrop for the first chapters of their love story.

As the film progresses, the audience is transported to the splendid setting of Lake Como, where Maurizio and Patrizia spend their summer holidays in a charming villa. The serene waters of the lake and the majestic mountains that surround it make the place an idyllic paradise for the couple. But behind the veneer of wedded bliss lurks the tensions and jealousies that will eventually lead to their breakup. The villa is Villa Balbiano: built at the end of the 16th century on the western shore of Lake Como, in the film it is the Italian residence of Aldo Gucci where, among other things, a poolside reception takes place.

Maurizio, as the heir to the Gucci fashion empire, is faced with a series of challenges and responsibilities which lead the film to move to the vibrant city of Milan. Here, viewers can immerse themselves in the world of Italian fashion, with scenes taking place in the prestigious boutiques of Via Montenapoleone and on the catwalks of Milan Fashion Week. The city's exclusive venues reflect the luxury and opulence associated with the Gucci brand.

To better experience Milan in its fashionable aspect, I suggest a Fashion Highlights Tour, lasting 2 hours, which includes a visit to some of the most iconic shopping places in the city in the famous Fashion District, with an expert local guide.

But the history of House of Gucci was much more than just a story of love and fashion. It was also a mix of greed and treachery. The plot became increasingly obscure when Maurizio, dissatisfied with his marriage, decided to separate from Patrizia. It was here that the plot moved to Rome, the Eternal City.

Rome, with its ancient architecture and busy streets, provided a perfect setting for the drama unfolding between Maurizio and Patrizia. Viewers were drawn into the intense legal battle that followed the split, with ambitious lawyers battling over the Gucci fortune. Scenes unfolded in the Roman courts, with sharp dialogue and tension building to a fever pitch.

But the story of House of Gucci could not end without a noteworthy epilogue. And so, the final scene of the film moved to Milan, in the prestigious Teatro alla Scala. Here, spectators witnessed the most anticipated fashion show of the year, organized by Gucci itself. The glittering runway, illuminated by brilliant lights and animated by famous models, represented the triumph of image and power. It was there that the fate of Maurizio and Patrizia would be definitively revealed.

An Italian breeze envelops the spectators and drags them into a whirlwind of emotions, up to the final scene that will leave an indelible mark in everyone's memory.

The places of the film

Dealing with three decades of history of an important Italian fashion house, the film is the result of research on the Gucci family, magazines, photographs and video documentaries, to capture the look of each decade, not only in fashion but even in the lights of the fashion shows and in the musical field.

The main location is Rome. In the Talenti area, between Ugo Ojetti and Fucini streets, the exterior of the “Insight” store has become the Gucci store (in dark gold and brown wood) on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan: the panorama of the New York district has been recreated by enormous blue towels, while the atmosphere was given by the typical yellow cabs, Chevrolets and Fords, and traffic from Big Apple. In reality, it is the "Zita Fabiani" boutique. Some scenes involved via dei Condotti, home to one of the Gucci boutiques and Parco Leonardo in Fiumicino, close to the Rome International Airport.

For Paolo Gucci's design studio in Milan, the production used a real textile design studio in the Trastevere district of Rome. In carrying out the murder scene of the film, the Milan location of via Palestro n. 20, where the crime actually took place on the morning of March 27, 1995, was considered not very cinematic and therefore replaced by an area of Rome, a collage of architectural styles, Gothic, Renaissance and Arab with wide streets that could credibly replace Milan. The Milan house of Gucci in the film reconstruction is in fact located in Rome, and precisely in the Coppedè district. The wedding, which was actually celebrated in the Church of Santo Spirito in Milan, is filmed here in Rome, in Santa Maria in Portico in Campitelli, in the Sant'Angelo district. For the scenes of the trial against Patrizia Reggiani, we recognize the so-called Palazzaccio or the Palace of Justice in Rome.

Studio 54, the iconic late 1970s nightclub visited by members of the Gucci family, together with the fashion shows presented in the film, are the result of a reconstruction in a series of "black boxes" in a department store near Rome Fiumicino International Airport. Some interiors have been also created in the studio at Cinecittà.

Another step in the production was Milan where exteriors and interiors were shot, including a scene designed to make the Lombard capital look like downtown Manhattan: a modern glass and polished stone bank building in Milan was transformed into an eccentric emporium of Gucci on Canal Street in Lower Manhattan. If the reconstruction of the interiors was intended to convey an eighties New York look, also the external area, including the area of via Vittor Pisani, near the Central Station, was transformed into the 42nd Street market in the early eighties and was filled featuring vintage Manhattan items including mailboxes, phone booths, fire hydrants, hot dog vendors.

Even the State University of Milan was the set of the film House of Gucci. It is in fact at the entrance to the historic building in the centre of Milan that a meeting takes place between Lady Gaga and Adam Driver. From here begins their love story turned into tragedy.

Many other sets were set up in front of the State University (in the parking lot in via Festa del Perdono Patrizia leaves her phone number to Maurizio), in Piazza della Scala, where an elegant lunch is held at the Il Salumaio Restaurant in via Santo Spirito, in full Fashion district, Corso Venezia, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, Via Marina and Piazza Duomo. For the home of Rodolfo Gucci, where Maurizio Gucci's funeral is celebrated, the production used Villa Necchi Campiglio, now a museum.

The scenes in Saint Moritz, Switzerland, where the Gucci family spent their winter holidays, were filmed in Gressoney-Saint-Jean, in Valle d'Aosta. Filming took place on the exteriors of Villa Loubenò, built at the beginning of the 20th century, on the slopes of Weissmatten and in the picnic area of Gressoney-La-Trinité.
