Description

Sabancı University Sakıp Sabancı Museum is located in Istanbul, one of the oldest settlements of Bosphorus in Emirgan. The villa, which is the main building of the museum, was built by Italian architect Edouard De Nari by Prince Mehmed Ali Hasan of Egypt Hidiv family in 1927 and was used as summer residence by different members of the Hıdiv family for a long time and served as Montenegrin embassy for a short time. The pavilion was purchased from Princess İffet of the Hidiv family by Adana industrialist Hacı Ömer Sabancı in 1950 and started to be referred to as "Horse Pavilion" due to the 1864 horse sculpture of Louis Doumas, a French sculptor who was bought in the same year and placed in front of him. The second horse sculpture inside the horse mansion is the casting of one of the four attan, who was taken from Sultanahmet Square in Istanbul, which was plundered during the Crusades during the 4th Crusade in 1204, and placed in front of the San Marco church in Venice. After the death of Hacı Ömer Sabancı in 1966, Atlı Köşk, which was started to be used as permanent residence by Sakıp Sabancı who is a family-grown person, has been holding Sakıp Sabancı's rich line and picture collection for many years. In 1998, he was transformed into Sabancı University ' what has been allocated. Opened in 2002 with the addition of a modern gallery, the exhibition space of the museum was enlarged with the regulation in 2005, attaining international standards at the technical level. Today, Sabanci University Sakıp Sabancı Museum offers a versatile museum environment with its rich collection, comprehensive international temporary exhibitions accepted, conservation units, sample training programs, various concerts, conferences and seminars.
