Tirana's most unique street-Pedestrian street

2 minutes to read

Without doubt, Tirana's pedestrian street or called by albanians Pedonalja, is a place that completes the image of the city. In this particular street, cars are not allowed, which means that you will see only people walking or riding a bike. Usually,it is very calm and it gives you the impression that you alredy are outside the city.

Pedonalja carries in itself history, art and culture and this is manifested in the places from the past that still exist in this area and the new ones that came as a result of the "regeneration" of Tirana. Some historical places that you can spot during your walk are : Tirana's Castle, "The Academy of Sciences of Albania", old "National Library of Albania" and Tanner's bridge. As for the art part,at Pedonalja you can easily find National Experimental Theatre , "Millenium" cinema, "Reja" installation and furthermore you can even visit the National Art Gallery.

Pedonalja is also famous for the street singers and performers. For the past years, this street had an enormous vitality coming from these talented people that pleased everyone with their skills. Also, if you want to know when is the perfect time to visit this place, I would say during the Christmas time when it is transformed into a small "Christmas Market". Decorations and lights everywhere, cozy bars and above all happy faces. You can grab a beer at the "Beer houses" , eat some albanian food and enjoy the games or live music.

Walking towards the end of the street, you can sit for a while at a small park which is near the Parliament of Albania and on the other side of the road, if you want to go for shopping, there is Toptani center, the newest shopping center in Tirana.
