The real essence of Ibiza

2 minutes to read

Following the same feeling that inspired me to write my previous article about an amazing beach in Castelldefels, near Barcelona, I am back to tell you about one of my recent summer trips to one of the most beautiful and popular destinations ever. If you are looking for idyllic beaches and plenty of parties, then Ibiza is the place! Ibiza is a Spanish island in the Mediterranean Sea, off the eastern coast of Spain, and is the third largest of the Balearic Islands, an autonomous community of Spain. It is only 150 kilometres (93 miles) from the city I am currently living in, Valencia, and there are plenty of ways to get there. You can fly or take a ferry from different Mediterranean cities such as Denia (check the following story to find out about the Mediterranean city of Denia).

The problem that you can often find in Ibiza is the crazy amount of tourists that in some way have abused plenty of the island's resources, and the lack of accommodation for so many people that want to stay and work there - so it feels like the island is really spoilt. However, Ibiza has always been associated with hippies, since the island became popular due to the arrival of hippy communities during the 60s. If you still want to experience this vibe, I have the perfect spot for you to visit: Cala Nova Campsite!

Cala Nova Campsite and Cala Nova

Cala Nova Campsite is a fun and peaceful place where you can still experience hippie vibes because the people that stay there are super friendly and multicultural, and offer you help if you need and chat to you a lot. There are plenty of people who stay there for the whole summer season, because they work around, and they have camper vans or very big and good quality tents. The campsite also has different areas to hang out with people and a cool hippie bar that organises events and parties and brings some cool bands to play every week. There are also plenty of outdoor activities you can do around the campsite, like cycling, trekking, diving, visiting markets, horse riding, etc. I honestly believe there are a very few places like this around the world, you have to go yourself to experience it. This campsite is also a perfect accommodation if you have a small budget as I did when I visited.

Undoubtedly, the best part about this campsite is its location. It's in an amazing part of the east side, quite far from where all the parties are, in Cala Nova Beach. Cala Nova has fine sand and crystal clear water and is surrounded by pine trees and an ecologically-protected area of sand dunes. Lots of the visitors that get to experience this cove, that say that it is probably one of the best coves on Ibiza, since it is not very crowded.
