The Obolon Quay - an ideal place for walks in Kyiv

3 minutes to read

Almost all of the most famous capitals of European countries have one common feature, they are located on a river. If you like to travel you may agree that Budapest, Prague, Vienna and many other capitals would not be as attractive and romantic if they did not have such beautiful waterfronts and bridges. The capital of Ukraine, Kyiv, is no exception.  The majestic Dnipro River flows through the city and divides it into two parts: the right and the left bank. On its slopes, you will find a great number of charming places, beautiful cafes, and touristic sights.  In this article, I will introduce you to the location that I think is the perfect place for relaxation and walking - the Obolon Quay.

A favorite place for walking in Kyiv

Kyiv, like any capital city, is a huge metropolis with a boiling life. Every day, thousands of citizens are racing somewhere for their own reasons. Thousands of cars are moving from one part of the city to another.  Given the rhythm of life of a typical resident of the capital, everyone is looking for a place to relax with a loved one or family. The ideal place for such an unwinding is the Obolon Quay. Even though the residential area of Obolon is far from the city center, it is considered one of the best for living. This is primarily because of the incredibly modern and beautiful Dnipro waterfront. The history of the Obolon Quay begins in the 1970s.

When you come there, you get the impression that you are in a completely different world and even in a different country. Modern treadmills and trails, an incredible park area; all the waterfront is a solid pedestrian zone. The feeling of a big metropolis is lost here; you get into an atmosphere of peace and quiet. You can spend all day on the Obolon Quay. It is also essential that there are playgrounds for children, and they will certainly enjoy it here.

The Natalka Park and the Garden of Stones

A large part of the Obolon Quay is a park that bears the beautiful female name Natalka. A lot of efforts and the cost of the Kyiv City Council have been put into the development of this park. Locals call this park the most beautiful park in Kyiv. It was opened in 2018. Everything here is suited for a perfect holiday. You will be pleasantly surprised by the landscape, the arbors, the free outdoor gym, and even the summer cinema.

In 2011, the Garden of Stones was opened on the territory of Natalka Park on the Obolon Quay in Kyiv, on a small square designed in the shape of a sail. The Garden of Stones is adorned with 24 tall basalt stone columns and 5 columns of artificial materials. Many of them include beautiful bronze sculptures. There are benches and a walkway in the garden. The most beautiful part of the Garden of Stones is a granite fountain with a diameter of 11 meters. In the center of the fountain is a sculpture with three girls standing under a mushroom from which water flows as if it were raining. I hope that my story about the Obolon Quay gave you an idea of an ideal place for walks in Kyiv that you want to check out soon!
