Description

Based on Wilhelm Lehmbruck's work, primitivism and cubism meet here, abstraction and expressionism, constructivism and minimalism - in works by Picasso, Barlach, Brancusi, Dali, Magritte, Beuys, Moore or Serra. In addition, the museum has Germany's most important Giacometti work group and a fine collection of German painting, from the turn of the century to the 1960s, by bridge artists such as Kirchner, Heckel, Schmidt-Rottluff, Pechstein and Mueller on Nolde, Macke, Campendonk and Rohlfs to Jawlensky, Kokoschka and Molzahn. Groundbreaking temporary exhibitions and events such as the "plastikBAR" on Thursday evening complement the collection as well as the nationwide art mediation with its motto "Art is there for everyone". For more than two decades, programs for groups, families and school classes have been developed for people with special needs, such as the hearing impaired, the visually impaired or those with dementia. This mixture makes the house an extraordinary place of communication between man and art.
