Dmanisi Museum-Reserve

Description

Dmanisi Museum-Reserve was founded in 1983 on the base of the Dmanisi monument. The monument represents a medieval site, where many archaeological excavations took place. Here, one can find a citadel, as well as public and religious buildings. Among the religious buildings of special interest is Dmanisi Sion (VI c.). Along with a medieval stratum, in Dmanisi, specialists discovered a geological stratum dated back to 1, 8 billion years ago, with numerous hominids and fossilized animals.
