Description
Botataung Pagoda is presumed to be ancient, but the current building is relatively new, since the old one was destroyed during World War II. Like many significant stupas in this part of the world, it contains a hair of Buddha. There is a reliquary inside the main spire – quite unusual, as most Buddhist stupas are sealed. © Istock/mathess
