Description

The roots of this ancient castles in the small village of Alcoutim go all the way back to the Moorish invasion of the Iberian Peninsula, but the construction of the castle as we see it today began in the XIV century, were it was important defending the trade routes in the Guadiana River against the spanish border. In the 60's the keep was restored but it was only in the 1990's, that the archeological museum was made a part of the now revitalized castle, that now boast a large collection of archeological findings in the region. © André Jesus
