Samtskhe-Javakheti is a region located in the south center of the country, bordering Armenia and Turkey to the south....

The major attractions of the region are the caves monasteries of Vardzia and the Vanis Kvabebi, a really old religious village built in the rocks. The region's diverse landscape and natural resources include a mountainous terrain, several highland volcanic plateaus, mountain steppes, alpine and subalpine vegetation, canyons, rivers, large and small lakes, as well as wetland marshes. The capital of the region is the city of Akhaltsikhe, a city more than 800 years old. Around the area you will find many old monuments like the Sapara monastery, the Mosque inside the old castle of Rabati and the Khertvisi fortress.
