Algarve Beach Encyclopedia! Aljezur pt1

2 minutes to read

On this entry of the Algarve Beach encyclopedia, we are going to check out the first sandstrips you can find in the region when travelling south. The list of these is located below, and some of them are visible in more detail to help you see the different kinds of options you have when passing by! Here are the northernmost beaches of Algarve, in the parish of Aljezur.

This first half on the parish of Aljezur has mostly unsupervised sandstrips surrounded by cliffs. If you enjoy trekking or simply travelling along the coast, these locations can really offer you the beauty of untouched nature. But they can also be peaceful refuges if you pass by during the low tide! A few other sandstrips in the region, however, are famous for their huge sand areas, making them very popular choices anytime.

Praia de Odeceixe

Above is Praia de Odeceixe, a huge sandstrip located near the lovely Odeceixe village. The beach is bathed by the sea and also by Ribeira de Seixe that has finds its river mouth here and surrounds the sandstrip. The ample area, the lovely waters and the fantastic sights make this beach one the most popular around, and a great first beach for the Algarve coast!

Praia da Samouqueira

This sandstrip is called Praia da Samouqueira, and it is a fantastic spot to enjoy the sights of the sea and rocky cliffs of this part of the coast in a tranquil environment. As the tides change, so does the unsupervised sandstrip, varying from a long extension to being completetly submerged. If you time your visit well, you can find a peaceful refuge here!

Praia de Monte Clérigo

The sandstrip of Praia do Monte Clérigo offers plenty of room for everyone to enjoy the sand, making this a favourite location in the summer. The small village of Monte Clérigo, located by the cliffs, provides access to seaside trails that offer priviledged viewpoints of the whole area. And when the main sandstrip gets very crowded, you can also try reaching the nearby sand pockets, accessible with the low tide, and enjoy a more quiet side of this great beach.

There goes the first part on the Aljezur beaches. If these were not enough for the beach lover in you, take a look at these other options: the second part on Aljezur sandstrips, or the amazing beaches in Lagos!

Enjoy your visit along the coast of southern Portugal with the help of this encyclopedia on the great beaches of Algarve, and don't forget to take your time to really appreciate the things you see!
