The Biggest Aerial Lifts in Austria

One of the most important feature of good ski-resort is quality cable transport i.e. aerial lifts. Austria as the Alpine country with numerous ski-resorts has the top-notch infrastructure of the airlift transport. The leading and the world's largest ropeway manufacturer the company Doppelmayr located in Austrian federal state of Voralberg built majority airlifts in Austria.

In this article we will introduce you with the 2 biggest cable cars in Austria. Both of them are located in famous skiing valley Zillertal.

Ahornbahn, is the largest cable car in Austria connecting town of Mayerhofen to nearby Ahorn mountain. In just 6,5 minutes you travel from 680 to 2.000 Meter height on a 3 km long ropes. Ahornabahn cabin offers space for 160 people. It was opened in 2006 replacing an older cable car from 1968. In winter it transports skiers and serves as a feeder to the Ahorn skiing region and in Summer it is starting point for hikers and others who want to explore the mountains.

150er Tux is the second largest cable car in Austria located in ski area Zillertal 3000. It is around 2 km long and connects mountain Penken with the 2420 m high peak Wangelspitz in just 3.5 minutes. At its steepest part it overcomes 74 percent gradient. 150er Tux is built by Dopelmayr in 2001 and offers place for 150 people.

No matter if you are not skier or snowboarder ride on these two giants is great experience for everyone and you should try it, even if you are a little bit acrophobic.
