Squares of Seville

There are many famous monuments in Seville, in the southern province of Andalusia, Spain. However, for me one of the best parts of this charming, enigmatic and friendly city is the plethora of big and small squares. These are dotted around the city, and provide exactly the right environment for people to hang out in the sun, socialise and generally relax. I'm going to show you three of my favourite places where Spaniards can be Spanish!

The most obvious - Plaza Mayor

Plaza Mayor in Seville is world-famous, and is on the top of the list for most visitors. Breathtaking architecture, a beautiful internal river and a huge park next to it make this a fantastic 'sightseeing' square to check out. However it doesn't provide much clues about daily life here. For that, we need to move on to our next square.

Under the Parasol - Plaza de la Encarnacion

Underneath this giant piece of art, are a small group of restaurants and bars. Nestled away in a relatively hidden corner, these places are a little less crowded and provide the perfect spot to have a glass of wine and watch Seville unfold around you.

Sunny and open - Alameda de Hercules

This square is a tree-lined shady and sunny spot. In the photo above you can see me enjoying some wine and generally hanging out. We stayed in this square from lunch at about 14:00 to dinner at 20:00, watching the families, children and groups of teens generally being Spanish and Sevillian!
