Rototom Sunsplash; Europe’s biggest reggae scene

2 minutes to read
Give me, give me, give me just a little smile... We got a message for you... Sunshine, sunshine reggae... Don't worry, don't hurry, take it easy... Sunshine, sunshine reggae... Let the good vibes get a lot stronger…

If you have already recognised the song and started singing along with the lyrics above, then you’ll definitely appreciate the page that follows! “Don’t worry, don’t hurry, smile and let the good vibes make you stronger” is the mentality of one of Spain’s biggest festivals, Rototom Sunsplash.

The festival & its purpose

The Rototom Sunsplash festival is about to take place from the 16th to 22 of August in Benicassim, Spain and the reggae fans couldn’t be more excited! Reggae, sun, sea and fun is what the organisers promise and a unique, lifetime experience is guaranteed!

Known as the best reggae festival in Europe, Rototom Sunsplash is heavily inspired by the iconic Jamaican festival Reggae Sunsplash. Each summer the festival brings an array of the scene's biggest names, from genre pioneers to exciting new acts, to the Spanish coast for a week-long celebration of the music and the culture. Honored to be recognized by UNESCO as an Exemplary Event for the decade 2001-2010 for their work promoting Culture of Peace and Nonviolence, Rototom Sunsplash seeks the promotion of peace, equality, human rights and social justice, which has always been key to the way of understanding, not only the festival, but life itself.

The location

Only a few kilometres away from Valencia, the Benicassim shoreline is bathing in the sun with a warm climate, making it the perfect place to relax while visiting the festival during summer!

Accommodation & principles

People visiting the festival tend to stay at the campsite, a "small city" where you will not be left needing anything: health care store, grocery, bakery, lockers, collective kitchen etc. can all be found within the festival’s campsite…One of the peculiar characteristics of this festival, as those who have experienced it will tell you, (be it as visitors, guests or staff), is the community that is created among all those in attendance. Solidarity and respect are among the main values represented and promoted during the festival; without solidarity among people, advancements in human rights couldn’t be made! Solidarity is essential and according to the organisers is what leads steadily towards the world that we are all looking for!

Tickets

Tickets for the festival and the campsite can be purchased online or at the ticket office, which will remain open 24 hours a day. I’d say better buy it online and make sure you buy it in advance; you always get the best deals in such way!

Aftermovie

Here's a glimpse from last year's Rototom! Exciting right?

You ready yet? I am and hopefully see you there! Free your inner spirit, join the community and let the reggae tunes take you away :)
