2 minutes to read

Montenegro is well known for its great variety of good quality wines. They are grown mostly in the central and southern part of the country. Many families make their own home made wines and in Podgorica, along the banks of Cijevna River, one of the largest vineyards in Europe is situated. Plantaže Vineyard known for the best Montenegrin wines, offers interesting wine testing tours through its vineyards and cellars.

Among the 28 grape varieties, the most famous wines are Krstač and Vranac.

Krstač is a very rare wine and Plantaže is the only winery in the world producing it. The Vitis Vinifera grape grows only in Serbia and Montenegro and the largest amount is cultivated in the area of Podgorica as Montenegro has a perfect climate for it with enough humidity and large amount of sunny days. Krstač is a premium wine, dry and rich in taste, with fruity aromas.

Vranac is red wine which occupies 70% of Plantaže Vineyard area. The name Vranac means ''the black horse'' and it is an award winning wine with it's first prize received in London Exibition in 1907. Vranac is the ideal drink to accompany meat, spicy meals and the most amazing combination Vranac makes together with prosciutto and cheese from Njeguši.
