National park made of 140 islands – Kornati

1 minutes to read
As is the number of days in a year, so is the number of the Kornati islands

This story we will begin with this old saying. And it's like that. National park Kornati has numerous islands - small ones and big ones. Since 1980. Kornati islands are officially national park in Croatia. Islands don't have permanent inhabitants but daily and season migrations are big.

Located in Šibenik-Knin county, in the middle of Adriatic sea, Kornati islands are very specific. Actually this archipelago represents the densest one in the Mediterranean - 140 islands on 320 square kilometers. Fan fact is that only 5% of the surface of those islands is covered with some kind plants - trees are rear on the most of those islands. Constant deforestation leak of the water in the islands soil and above all karst-limestone terrain made those islands look"naked' and maybe scary when you are approaching them. My impression is that Kornati islands are like small volcanoes rising from the water - if a were a little boy drawing them on the paper.
