The museum is situated in the picturesque foothills of the Trans-Ili-Alatau on the site of the Issyk necropolis and the place of the discovery of the most spectacular archaeological find in Kazakhstan – the Golden Man. The picturesque landscape and the unparalleled views of the burial mounds, which for 2500 years have been witness to major historical events, make this a truly unique museum. The main theme of the museum exposition is the Saki-Wusun period of Kazakhstan’s ancient history – the period of the Golden Man, or Golden Warrior, the image of which has become the symbol of independent Kazakhstan.
