Description

The Zagreb Puppet Theater was founded in 1948 and the oldest professional puppet theater in Croatia. The theater for sixty-six years brings together top performers - dramatists and poets, painters and sculptors, musicians and choreographers, costumes and stage designers, directors and actors. Thanks to their creativity and skills, they have gained a great reputation in Croatia and abroad, which is confirmed by the audience's affection and the numerous awards they have received at famous festivals around the world. Today, the theater has about 70 employees of different professions. We make dolls and scenery in our own workshop. In 2004, after five years of "homelessness", the Zagreb Puppet Theater returned to its newly-renovated building. The theater is now a beautifully restored building with 200 seats in the auditorium and a technologically well-equipped stage where puppet performances can now be performed, performances with a "live" actor and even chamber opera, dance and music performances. Our plays are intended for children and their families. The Zagreb Puppet Theater has so far put together 320 performances. We believe that the technical aspects of the play should not overshadow the words of the play and its message, nor become the sole purpose of the dramatic act, so it is our job to find the balance between the spoken word and the scene spectacle. Some of our performances are based on the works of contemporary authors, but most of them are classic fairy tales that have been researched by prominent Croatian and foreign theater directors known for their work in the theater for adults.
