Description

The Cathedral of the Dormition in Gorodok, built on the orders of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod in 1399, is the only fully preserved example of 14th-century Muscovite architecture. The white-stone building takes the form of a cross-in-square with the 4 pillars, a design typical for the era. It is topped with a single black dome. On the outside, it is decorated with intricate engravings. Inside the cathedral, the old frescos have been preserved, including the fragments attributed to the famous icon-painter Andrey Rublev.
