Description

The story of Sérgio Cardoso Theater begins in 1954, when the actor and his wife, the actress Nydia Licia, walked on foot through the neighborhood of Bexiga, at dawn, returning from the recordings of the film "The Fire", and discover in the Rua Conselheiro Ramalho the former Cine Teatro Espéria. They glimpsed in the old abandoned house, hidden behind a siding and in the process of being transformed into a market or a garage, the opportunity to realize a dream and have a theater of its own. They contacted the property owners and formalized the space rent for ten years, with an option for five more. The next step was the search for partners to renovate the building with the aim of transforming it into the most modern and comfortable theater in the city of São Paulo. To this end, the engineers Otto Meinberg and Ricardo Capote Valente were invited to accept the challenge. Thus was founded the Bela Vista Company, which would be responsible for the reform and administration of the theater. Then, an exhaustive campaign to raise members and funds to complete the work began. In parallel, they founded a Company with young and idealistic actors. Thus, at the age of 31, Sergio created both a theater and a company.
