Imprint: http://on.fb.me/16X2b9f From 1508 to 1918, the Munich Residence was the seat of residence and government of the Bavarian dukes, electors and kings. Over the centuries, a castle in the northeastern corner of the city fortification ("Neuveste", 1385) transformed the princes into a sumptuous imperial seat and expanded courtyards and gardens into the city. Spaces and art collections from the Renaissance, Early Baroque and Rococo periods through to Classicism bear witness to the art sense and political claim of the Wittelsbach family. Today, the residence is one of the largest museum complexes in Bavaria with the museums of the Bavarian Palace Department (Residenzmuseum, Schatzkammer, Cuvilliés Theater, Allerheiligen-Hofkirche) and various other cultural institutions.
