Description

The first Museum of the Museum of Industrial Society was founded in 1874. This museum gradually began to stagnate and a new town museum (Stadtmuseum) was founded in 1910. The seat of the museum became an old Renaissance building of the 16th-century town hall. Not long before the opening of the new exhibition in 1916, there was a misfortune when the front of the old town hall collapsed. The rescued collections returned to the town hall after the opening of the new building in 1927. After the Second World War, the museum was transferred to the Czech hands, the collections were extended by objects from the confiscations of the displaced German inhabitants. The museum gradually took over collections from nearby museums (Úštěk, Třebenice, Libochovice, Roudnice nad Labem and Lovosice, Budyně nad Ohří). Between 1980 and 82, a new permanent exhibition, which is still in the museum, was gradually built. A permanent exhibition is devoted to the historical development of Litoměřice and Litoměřice until 1945 and to the geological development of the region. In addition to the permanent exhibition, visitors to the museum can regularly see short-term exhibitions in two exhibition halls. Part of the museum is the Branch of Macha's Memorial - called Mácha's Room, which is located in the nearby house "Na Vikárce". The museum collections are also permanently lent to the exhibition of the Czech Garnet Museum in Třebenice and to the Jandova City Museum in Budyně nad Ohří.
