Description

The Museum of Jade and Pre-Columbian Culture was inaugurated on October 31, 1977, with the name of Archaeological Collection, as part of the organic structure of the National Insurance Institute. From 1977 to 2005, the Museum of Jade and Pre-Columbian Culture occupied a large part of the 11th floor of the headquarters of the National Insurance Institute. In 2006 the Museum was moved to the ground floor of the central offices of the National Insurance Institute, with the purpose of facilitating access for visitors to the permanent archeology exhibition. Since its inauguration, the Jade Museum and the Pre-Columbian Culture, has fulfilled the objective of disseminating the culture related to the exhibition of the artistic and archaeological heritage it protects. The Museum of Jade and Pre-Columbian Culture, is constituted as a contribution of the National Insurance Institute to the Costa Rican society and is an integral part of the Social Responsibility Program of the company in the Community axis. In May 2014, the new building of the Jade Museum and the Pre-Columbian Culture was inaugurated, in which the most works are exhibited in an appropriate and innovative environment.
