Description

The Vevey History Museum, founded in 1897, occupies the rooms of Vevey Castle. Formerly called "Belle-Maison", this 16th century mansion was the residence of the Bernese bailiffs. It is within this historical context that the museum's collections bring alive the history of the region, from Celtic times to the present. Objects, documents and many iconographic testimonies are exposed in a format that respects the character of the house. Vaud and Swiss furniture, handicrafts, old weapons, manuscripts, engravings and paintings by Swiss Petits Maîtres represent the bulk of the permanent exhibition, which also comprises a unique collection of keys, locks and old caskets particularly noteworthy.
