Palaeontological excavations in Greece have brought to light real treasures of global interest. The Museum of Palaeontology and Geology houses an irreplaceable geological collection, fossils of the flora and fauna of the Greek hinterland as well as the Greek islands. The collection of fossils is divided into four main categories: invertebrates, vertebrates, plants and micro-paleontological objects. The most important fossils are exposed to the public. The fossils from Greece date from 290 million years ago up to about 4.4 thousand years. The most ancient Greek fossils are trilobites and brahopods from the Permian deposits of Chios. Apart from the Greek fossils, we also have some fossils from abroad and casts, mainly from large reptiles.
