Description

The Gorizia Museum is a provincial general museum. Its activities cover the area of ​​historical Goriška, or its part, which is today in Slovenia. All the museum professions are represented in the museum, which manages many collections. It was founded in 1952, and since 1954, it has rooms in the Kromberk Castle, which are dedicated to exhibitions today. Since 2012, it has a new headquarters in the Villa Bartolomei in Solkan. It consists of a central building of almost square ground plan with four equivalent facades and corner towers. During the First World War, he was badly damaged, Count William Coronini, during the reconstruction after the war, built another second floor. During the Second World War, the mansion was partially demolished and later renovated. Inside, there is a variety of exhibitions. In the ground floor there is a lapidarium, and on the first floor there are three collections: Gallery of the Old Fine Art, a cultural-historical collection and Gallery of coastal artists of the 20th century and a wedding hall. The second floor is dedicated to occasional exhibitions.
