It is probably the most celebrated event in Geneva, “La Fête de l’Escalade” means the celebrations of the climb of Geneva. Each year, at the beginning of December, people gather together in the old centre of Geneva to commemorate a historical event that happened during the night of 11th and 12th of December 1602: the victory of the city against the Duke of Savoy and his troops. Since 1978, a very popular running race goes through the old city of Geneva, it has been added to the Escalade celebrations.
