Description

Located in Selçuk district center, Ephesus Museum is a rare local museum with its artifacts, exhibition halls, visitor capacity and cultural activities. The museum is kept open throughout the year, mostly in Ephesus, St. Petersburg. The works are very important for Ephesus and Anatolian archeology brought from Jean Church, Artemision, Belevi Tomb Monument and other nearby ruins. The number of visitors to our museum together with museum affiliated units exceeds two million.        The artifacts discovered in the first years in Ephesus were taken to İzmir, Istanbul, Vienna and London museums and are exhibited in these museums today. After the Republic, a decision was taken to collect the new finds in one place and a warehouse was first established in Seljuk in 1929. Collected artifacts found in and around the excavations were brought here. In 1964, the construction of the section in the southern part of the museum used today was completed and the works started to be exhibited. The building, which is composed of several horseshoes, was enlarged by building the northern part in 1976 because it was not enough for the works brought from the excavations. Today, the Ephesus Museum consists of two main sections: archeology and ethnography (arasta)
