Description

Open Wednesdays to Mondays 10.30am-4.30pm, closed on Tuesdays For more than 100 years, one of Lower Saxony's largest museums of cultural history has presented its collections on the folklore of eastern Lower Saxony, Celler's town history and the history of the former Kingdom of Hanover. Since the end of October 2013, the completely redesigned permanent exhibitions have been accessible again. The result is exhibition areas that illuminate the cultural history of the city and region in different ways. Connected to the built-in farmhouse is a tour that presents the importance of agriculture for the cultural history of the Celler area. Another exhibition leads into the epoch of Biedermeier and shows the emergence of citizen culture in Celle. The upper floor is dedicated to the development of industry and crafts. The attic shows Celle's three important examples of migration to the Celle region, experiences of loss of home and settling in foreign lands. Another exhibition is dedicated to the discovery of the Lüneburg Heath by travelers, artists and writers. In addition, the museum exhibits cultural and historical special exhibitions. The museum education department offers a wide-ranging program for visitors of all ages - from children's birthday parties to artists' workshops.
