Eating vegan in Antofagasta

3 minutes to read

You are walking around Antofagasta, admiring the beautiful sea and breathing fresh air: suddenly, you realize it is time to eat! Being vegan and traveling is not an easy task, so to save you from carrying around with you supermarket food, in this story, I will recommend some food options to maintain your ethical choice while enjoying the northern Chilean coast.

GreenMix

'Tasty, fresh, and healthy' is their motto, which they totally comply with. Although the place is not entirely vegan, they have a lot of vegan options to choose from. Among their varied menu, I highly recommend their natural pressed juices, filled with nutrients. Their "Antojitos Fit," are also delicious vegan snacks, organic and without sugar. And if you are feeling a bit more hungry then the Green Burger: there is a wide range of burgers to try and a lot of delicious sauces to go wild with! Fun fact: if you like Instagramming your food, the Green Burgers are and look gorgeous.

Govinda Vegetarian Restaurant

Some people say location is everything. Well, this restaurant is right in the city center. As the name suggests, Govinda is vegetarian but has plenty of vegan options, which are both tasty and affordable. The place is a university students' favorite, and everything is made with love for their clients. The vibe is super chill and nice.  I highly recommend you pick the menu of the day; they have a vegetarian and a vegan option each day, usually accompanied by a kombucha drink. Also, their pastries and bread are super worth trying!

Kenko Tetería Saludable

Its name translates to "Kenko Healthy Tea Place." The place is not focused on vegetarian/vegan food but rather on healthy eating in general, so most of their menu is gluten-free! I have to confess I am a tea fan, which is what they specialize in as their name suggests, so if you like tea... give it a shot! Also, their vegan options are fantastic and include different kinds of pizza, some desserts which are infusion based, sandwiches and salads, and other perfect companions for a cup of tea.

Veggie Rock

Did you like Scooby-Doo when you were a kid? Well, if you did... freak out! You can get great vegan food straight from The Mystery Machine. Everything in Veggie Rock is 100% vegan and delicious; they have amazing burgers, sweet treats, and even vegan empanadas: a type of baked or fried pastry with a filling. There are a lot of variations as they can be found almost everywhere in Latin America; in Chile, they are usually filled with meat or cheese, and that is why it is so great that here you can find a vegan option for it. As a plus, everything is homemade, and they are located near the coast! It is nice to eat nearby the ocean.

Hari Dham Restaurant

This is a vegetarian and vegan restaurant located above the Regional Stadium of Antofagasta. The place is family-friendly, and the vibe is so too. It is well-known, and a local favorite for their daily menus: ask for the vegan dish of the day. It also offers vegan junk food, which is kind of hard to find, like burgers and fries, those are local favorites too. The great thing about Hari Dham is that you can eat healthy and junk food in the same place.

As you read, Antofagasta has a lot of vegetarian restaurants with vegan options: all of them are very focused on attending to the customers, and of course, providing healthy eating options. Eat your way through Antofagasta without compromising your ethical choice!
