Copenhagen’s Frederiksberg Neighbourhood

3 minutes to read

Frederiksberg district neighbours the Nørrebro area in the western part of Copenhagen. This area of Copenhagen is residential and surrounded by a vast greenery, including the Frederiksberg Palace.

The green areas, as well as the Copenhagen ZOO are popular locations for the locals and families to relax and spend some quality time. Frederiksberg is well known for its shopping and high-end brands found on Gammel Kongevej (Old King’s Road). Frederiksberg is also a great area because of its abundance in cafes, delis and restaurants. Værnedamsvej is known as the gourmet street and has a bit of a French touch to it, where you can find plenty of cheese, wine, chocolate and other delicacies.

Take the opportunity to walk along Gammel Kongevej and enjoy the small shops and cafes, until you reach the Frederiksberg town hall. Copenhagen Business School is also located at the heart of Frederiksberg.

Where to Eat and Drink in Frederiksberg:

Frederiksberg Chokolade is an amazing chocolate shop where you can purchase chocolate or treat yourself to a delicious homemade chocolate ice-cream in the summertime. Coming here in the summer months is especially nice due to the charming outdoor seating offered all around. You can also book a spot for a chocolate lecture, which includes tasting raw cocoa beans, and learning about the history of chocolate.

Those of you who are looking for a special and fancy experience,  head over to Mielcke og Hurtigkarl. This place is an excellent choice for foodies but is also very pricy. The restaurant has a garden-looking interior from the Royal Danish Horticultural Gardens, and is rich in Danish design and artists’ influence.

The garden holds a special charm due to its water areas, canal passages and small walking paths. The Frederiksberg Garden extends from the Palace and all the way to the Copenhagen ZOO, from which you can see elephants from really up close (even without actually entering the ZOO). The Copenhagen ZOO is a very popular place for kids, since it's full of activities, tours, experiences and playgrounds.
