Best extreme sports in Piedmont

4 minutes to read
Sport will seek fear to dominate it, fatigue to triumph over it, difficulty to overcome it (Pierre de Coubertin)

In addition to the many cultural, artistic, and historical attractions, Piedmont offers many other outdoor activities. Among its high mountains and green valleys, between fairytale winter landscapes and enchanting lakes, you will find a large number of extreme sports to practice while in Piedmont.

Some of these activities are very particular and almost unique, and little is known about them. For example, did you know that a few kilometers from Turin, it is possible to walk on a Tibetan bridge? Or did you know that it is possible to live a unique roller coaster experience in the middle of nature?

If all these intrigue you and you cannot wait to practice a unique and exciting activity during your stay in Piedmont, do not waste time and take advantage of these tips.

The longest Tibetan bridge in the world

If you love nature and intense sensations (in total safety), the Tibetan Bridge is the one for you. The path of the bridge extends over the Gorge of San Gervasio, between the municipalities of Cesana Torinese and Claviere - about 70 kilometers from Turin.

The Tibetan Bridge, with its 468 meters, is the longest in the world. The path is suspended at the height of 35/40 meters. The bridge must be crossed with the help of a particular safety equipment consisting of a harness, helmet, longes. They are all supplied by the staff on the bridge. If owned by the user, they still must be checked by the Alpine Guides.

The safety of the excursion is entrusted to the two side ropes with a handrail function and an overhead rope. The crossing is truly suggestive and fascinating; there is time to enjoy the unspoiled nature around, which is beautiful and full of panoramas to contemplate. If you do not suffer from vertigo and love challenges, the Tibetan Bridge is for you. The Tibetan Bridge is open during the summer season.

Zipline Lago Maggiore– hanging by a thread

Having experienced a zipline corresponds to experiencing the sensations of a free flight without having to jump with a parachute. In Piedmont, not far from Verbania, there is a zipline, a spectacular attraction that will allow you to experience the thrill of flying over a green and lush valley. The zipline consists of a steel rope suspended between two points, which are at a different height. You jump from the highest point to make a quick descent, and then you "dive like a hawk".

Safety is guaranteed by the assistants, who will verify that the equipment and slings are worn correctly. Once the trolley is hooked to the cable, you can fly and travel 2 kilometers at over 120 km/h in just over a minute and a half. At the end of the route, an automatic braking system ensures a smooth landing on the arrival platform. You can choose between the freestyle flight, with free arms and legs, or the falcon style flight, with a hooked face down with the legs together, to simulate the flight of a hawk.

Unlike other flight activities, such as hang gliding or paragliding, the zipline is suitable for everyone because it does not require any preparation or skills. In short, it is an excellent solution for living a strong emotion safely! The zipline is open all year round.

Alpyland - Roller coaster in nature

Incredible but true ... In Piedmont, there are roller coasters that whiz through nature! On the top of Mottarone, a granite mountain near Lake Maggiore, there is an amusement park for the whole family, where you can spend time in nature. With splendid views, it gives you the chance to raise the levels of adrenaline in a unique roller coaster. The Alpine Coaster is a roller coaster bobsled track -very similar to a classic roller coaster, which runs downhill for over a kilometer, with a height difference of 100 meters.

The Alpine Coaster is suitable for everyone: brave and daring people, both adults and children from 4 years old- everyone can decide the speed of descent. In fact, the two-seater bobs are equipped with a brake, which allows the passenger sitting on the rear seat to accelerate and brake. The Alpine Coaster is open all year round, and the changing seasons make the thrill of the descent different every time in the landscape and colors: from the intense green of spring to the warm colors of autumn, and then the pure white of the snow in winter.

Bungee Jumping - Adrenaline at a 150 meters height

The practice of bungee jumping was born on an island in the Pacific Ocean as a test of courage and initiation practice, during the transition from adolescence to adulthood. Today it has become an extreme sport that can be practiced safely.

If you are passionate about extreme sports and are looking for strong emotions, in Piedmont, about 90 kilometers from Turin, there is the first Permanent Bungee Center in Italy, which attracts enthusiasts from all over Europe. The bridge from which the launches are made (Ponte della Pistolesa) is more than 150 meters high, and the jump speed exceeds 100 kilometers per hour, for an average fall time of 4.5 seconds. If you have courage, cold blood, and a pinch of madness, then this activity could be for you!
