Then, visit a gorgeously restored Japanese villa designed with both Western and Eastern influences. It was built in 1919, and served first as a private residence, and then as a ryokan. Now, it is preserved as part of cultural heritage. Step back in time as you wander through each room and take in the interesting features, such as a roman-tiled bath. Outside, there is a wonderfully landscaped Japanese garden where visitors can enjoy a stroll and feel the seasons of Japan.

While there are a number of hot spring resorts throughout Atami, you should definitely consider Ocean Spa Fuua located within Atami Bay Resort Korakuen. It is open for a day trip, and it is entirely possible to spend an entire day within its facilities. Spread over seven floors, it is a dedicated wellness facility. The men’s spa is located on the 5th floor, and the women’s spa on the 7th floor. Guests can choose from indoor or outdoor baths, and the outdoor bath opens up to a glorious view of Atami Bay. Atami Museum of Art 

The Atami Museum of Art is certainly worth a visit as well. To get there, there are bus services from Atami JR station. It houses a good collection of cultural works including paintings, calligraphy, and sculpture. One of the must-sees is the replica of the Golden Tea Room that Toyotomi Hideyoshi set up in the Imperial Palace in Kyoto in the New Year of 1586 in order to hold an all-gold tea ceremony for the then Emperor. There is also a Noh theatre on the premises. Take your time to explore the grounds of the museum, which offer sweeping views of Atami Bay. In the garden, there are some tea houses for refreshment and Japanese sweets, as well as restaurants where you can enjoy an excellent Japanese meal.
