A getaway to the Altay Alps ski resort in East Kazakhstan

3 minutes to read

The time to turn to the east part of Kazakhstan has come. In winter, this beautiful part of Kazakhstan awaits with picturesque views of tall trees and lots of snow. The administrative center of East Kazakhstan is a city called Ust-Kamenogorsk. So, whenever you find the opportunity to visit it, keep in mind that its mainly adventurous things to do are out of the town. Have an unforgettable getaway trip to the Altay Alps ski resort and have fun!

How to get there

The city of Ust-Kamenogorsk is accessible by trains, planes, and cars from different cities of Kazakhstan. When you get there, the skiing resort lays only 1 hour away by car; in this case, you can call a cab, and for 5000 tenges, you will reach the spot at ease. During the journey, do not get glued to your phone, but have your eyes wide open, because you will be surrounded by beautiful yet diverse nature all the way! It just amazes how wonderful this part is! If you would like to spend less money on the vehicle, you are welcome to take a bus, which passes from two spots: 1. Altay Alps city office at Kabanbay batyr 160 and 2. Sport Palace. Take the bus 'Ust-Kamenogorsk - Altay Alps.' They leave at 7.45 am, and 8 am; the price only costs 500 tenges one way.

Staying overnight

If you came here to enjoy the resort, it is worth staying overnight. The resort offers plenty of types of accommodation that include two meals. The prices vary depending on the type of room. It all depends on the housing style, the size, and the view. The price for two people starts from 22 000 tenges to 44 000 tenges, and for a group of 4 to 5 persons, it will be more or less 60 000 tenges to stay in one house together. Also, for the holidays, the prices certainly are different, but a little more than the offered standard pricing.

Rent your equipment

If you are having all your equipment for skiing with you, it is just great! However, for a tourist, it is much easier to rent it there. My own personal recommendation is to have your own ski costume, some extra pairs of warm clothes and of course, a good company! There are a couple of spots where you can rent your equipment either for skiing or snowboarding. So, for the full equipment, a helmet, glasses, and a ski pass, you will pay around 10 000 tenges. Bring along your ID or any other document, as it will be requested upon rental. The skiing zone works from 9 am to 5 pm.

Other things to do

There are some other things to do for those who are not into skiing. So, the place offers 'tube skating.' These things remind me of a huge donut balloon that you sit on and roll down from the snow hill. It is a fun thing to do for people of all ages! You can also ask for extra services such as spa, sauna, and horse riding. The resort is open for all types of fun in the winter season

On the top hills of the skiing resort, you can enjoy the magnificent view of a mountainous place with tall trees drowning in snow. Here comes the East Kazakhstan winter fairytale at a beautiful place called Altay Alps!
