Trick and entertain your senses at Ljubljana's House of Illusions

2 minutes to read

If you are looking for a unique and fun way of spending your day in Slovenia’ s green capital, then you came to the right place. At the House of Illusions, or Hiša Iluzij, located right in the center of Ljubljana, you will get to observe extraordinary optical illusions and installations, all while learning interesting facts about science and the power of our brain. On one of the capital's central squares, the Congress Square, you can enter the world of illusions, where your senses will be deceived, and your mind will be entertained with a handful of interesting exhibits, images, tricky puzzles, games and more.

Hang from the ceiling in the world of illusions

You can visit the House of Illusions every day of the week, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. More than 40 different exhibits are waiting for you there, including a room where you will appear to be shrinking to the size of a hobbit or growing into a mighty giant. If you are visiting with your friends or family, one of the funniest experiences can be swapping parts of your face with another person and seeing the mashed-up face in the mirror. In one of the rooms, you can even take a picture hanging upside down from the ceiling. I cannot forget to mention the famous Vortex Tunnel, which will completely confuse your senses. Take on the challenge and try making it to the other side of the tunnel while walking a straight line.

One of the best things at the House of Illusions is that it is not only a one-of-a-kind museum but also a great learning place, suitable for people of all ages. Throughout your visit, you will be accompanied by optical illusions hanging on the walls and other kinds of seemingly inexplicable installations and displays. But don’t worry. All of the exhibits include an interesting and thorough explanation of what you are looking at and how your brain is reacting to it. As the year 2018 was celebrated as the year of the greatest Slovenian writer - Ivan Cankar, even the House of Illusions decided to permanently include this special and beloved Slovenian literate in the collection of their exhibits. Walk around and pay attention to the hollow faces on the wall - you can observe how they change when looked at from the different distances and angles. As your brain won't have too much time to process the information, something very interesting will happen with your perception of the objects.

Are you up for a challenge?

If you think that after seeing and experiencing all of the exciting and interesting exhibits and tricking your senses, your visit to the House of Illusions is over, you are mistaken. Make sure to stop at the illusional play zone, where you can entertain your brain with various toys and put your skills and abilities to a test while solving complex mind games and tricky puzzles. You can expect to experience a bit of frustration, but that is only one of the reasons why your visit to Ljubljana's House of Illusions will be even more special and unforgettable.
