Part 4; The Netherlands

...Some may ask “Why study in the Netherlands?”

There is plenty to see in Holland, whether you’re strolling through town, making a boat trip on the canals or lakes, lazing on the beach or walking in the woods and dunes. If you’re planning to study abroad, going to the Netherlands is no doubt one of the top decisions you’ll ever make. Did you know that 1 in 10 students in Holland is an international student?

If you’re looking for a reason to study in the Netherlands, I’d be glad to give you more than one! Let me first state that the dutch universities offer the largest number of English-taught programmes in continental Europe. Isn’t that impressive? Important factor is also that will probably convince you is that the 95% of the Dutch speak English, so it’s easy to communicate in daily life. Living in Holland without speaking Dutch is not a problem; you will be able to order food, shop for clothes and even take sport classes in English. At the same time, Holland’s many international students come from more than 160 different countries! International students from all over the world come to study in the Netherlands, while most Dutch universities have international student associations, which help students throughout their studies.

Regarding the Dutch teaching style, it is definitely interactive and student-centred. Dutch universities include many practical elements in their degree courses. There is a high emphasis on relevant practical experiences, and universities have a lot of partnerships with Dutch companies, as well as international ones. And of course, if you’re a big time traveller, you shouldn’t forget that the Netherlands is centrally located in Europe and therefore is in easy reach of all major European cities. The Netherlands is often described as the “gateway to Europe”, and that’s totally right!

Below you may find a list with the most significant universities that can be found all over the country, covered so far in our database.

1) University of Utrecht

2) Vrije University of Amsterdam

3) Radboud University of Nijmegen

4) Leiden University
