The best fish in Belgrade at Stara Koliba

2 minutes to read

Stara Koliba Restaurant

If somebody asked you what is your immediate association to Belgrade, beautiful Serbian capital, what would you say? Would you say its the amazing climate, especially in spring? Or you would talk about the most decadent and heavy cuisine? Maybe it is the people, smiley and welcoming? For me, my instant association to Belgrade is love, walking alongthe beloved, glorios and natural treasures of Belgrade, rivers of Sava and Danube, whose collision called Usce is located right in this very city. Enough with the association game – what would you say if I could tell you there is a an incredibly cosy and welcoming place, where you can eat the most delicious fish in the city, enjoy calming views and enjoy traditional music. If you are all ears, then let me introduce you to the beautiful fish restaurant in Belgrade called Stara Koliba.

Stara Koliba restaurant, as its name applies (Old House) is a very authentic, traditional place, conveniently located at place where rivers Sava and Danube meet (usce). This is an ideal place if you would like to have a chill, Sunday afternoon lunch with a beautiful view, but also with a possibility to have a nice, live music quick played by the musicians.

What you should keep in mind is that it is very difficult (but not impossible) to find a parking spot around the restaurant, especially if it is a weekend and a sunny day, like it was during my visit. I would suggest you to instead have a soothing walk in the nature before lunch which will definitely open up your appetite and save you from all the car hustle.

While walking on the pavement area, along two beautiful rivers of Sava and Danube, you will notice a small, wooden sign pointing out to the Stara Koliba restaurant. While following the directions, you will notice as you are even more immersed in the nature, passing through a small jungle. After maximum 5 minutes of walking, you will notice big stairs leading directly to this old house at the river. Trust me, that will be the view you would like to capture. Have no concerns – even though they might be a bit shaky, stairs are completely safe!

Upon arriving to Stara Koliba restaurant, you might feel a bit overwhelmed with an array of sounds coming from the musicians, fish getting ready on a grill, people laughing and drinking. But the moment you find your seat and the first look at the river, will definitely make you forget all the troubles and noises around. That is why I always claim my father is a zen master- managing to find the most peaceful places in the midst of a crowd.

A plethora of fish choice at Stara Koliba restaurant as well as a perfect choice of wine definitely asks for a waiters’ help. No matter which fish you choose, on the most affordable price, you will be perfectly happy. Even better, you will find yourself completely relaxed, eating delicious fish, sipping wine, and enjoying the most zen view at the river and the ducks peacefully passing by. So, what is your first association to Belgrade?
