The story about the Garden of Migrations

The Garden of Migrations is opened in 2013 as part of the MuCEM. The idea behind this Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilizations was to create a place where visitors can learn everything they want to know about the Mediterranean culture. But, you can't talk about Mediterranean culture without mentioning its melting pot. This museum and garden are located in the heart of the Port of Marseille. This place was actually a location where many people were coming and leaving this city, and even Europe. For that reason, this garden is created as a kind of homage to those migrations of people, goods, and even plants. Situated next to the 17-century Fort Saint-Jean, on more than 10 000 m², this green space is a real Mediterranean encyclopedia of plants. So, when you visit the MuCEM, make sure to take a look at this incredible place. 

A garden with 15 different spaces

The Garden of Migrations consists of 15 different areas, and each area is entirely different. The most beautiful is probably the "Courtyard of the Orange Trees". This space strongly resembles on the courtyard of the mosques of Cordoba and even the Moroccan Riads. You will also find the area called the "Garden of Myrtle." This is the place that evokes the Alhambra in Granada, Spain. In the Garden of Migrations, you can also stroll through the spaces like the "Saffron Garden", the "Wild Salads", the "Hanging Fig Trees", the "Path of Aromatics Plants", the "Wind Garden", etc. If you are looking to learn more about the Mediterranean nature, then you should take a walk in the areas called "Mediterranean Vegetable Garden" and the "Ethnology-botanical Route". In those areas, you can learn all about the secret life of plants.

The Garden of Migrations (Le Jardin des Migrations) is one of the best parks and gardens in Marseille. This place is perfect for walks, picnic, and even daydreaming. It is also an ideal green space for families and children where they can have a relaxing and peaceful day. The Garden of Migrations is open every day, except on Tuesdays, from 11 am to 7 pm (during the summer from 10 am to 8 pm). The entrance to this garden is free of charge.
