Carinthia

Slovenian Carinthia is a region in northern Slovenia, along the border with Austria. The region is difficult to access and is poorly connected with the other parts of the country....

The environment has been strongly affected by heavy industry in the valleys. The largest city is Slovenj Gradec, a town with many beautiful churches worth visiting. The parish church in the town is dedicated to Saint Elizabeth of Hungary, and belongs to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Maribor. Next to it stands a Gothic chapel dedicated to the Holy Spirit, with frescos from the mid-15th century. Apart from religious attractions, the town hosts the Slovenj Gradec Art Gallery, that proposes international fine art exhibitions.
