South Russia

The region is located in the south of Russia. It borders Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, the Black Sea and Ukraine....

The mountainous part of this region is politically complex, due to various linguistic, political and ethnic cultures. The other part, made of plains, is more “Russian” in character. The region has a strong history, whose testimonies can be admired in cities such as Elista, Derbent (the oldest city in Russia), Krasnodar… The region is also home to two famous ski resorts: Sochi, the host of the 2014 Winter Olympics, near the Black Sea, and Dombai (the first mountain resort) in the heart of Teberdinsky Nature Reserve. You can enjoy some great alpine skiing, hiking and climbing experience there.
