The Hamburg Metropolitan Region is a metropolitan area centred around the city of Hamburg in northern Germany, consisting of eight districts (Landkreise) in the federal state of Lower Saxony, six districts (Kreise) in the state of Schleswig-Holstein and two districts in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, along with the city-state of Hamburg itself....

It is home to more than 5 millions inhabitants. Hamburg is located on the Elbe a few kilometers from the North Sea. Widely bombed during the Second World War, Hamburg has preserved today some traces of its historical heritage. The city is well known for its nightlife, and famous St. Paul's district. Tourists go there to enjoy its cultural vitality: events, museums (including the Museum of Fine Arts and Decorative Arts), opera, concerts and a famous nightlife. It has preserved spaces of greenery which allow to breathe fresh air after wandering downtown. These places are found especially on the banks of the Alster. The city also has a municipal park and a botanical garden named 'Planten a Blomen'.
