Lower Kartli

Lower Kartli is a region located in the south east of the country, just at the south of Tbilisi....

The capital of the region is the city of Rustavi, an area with differents folks through the ages. This city used to be under the control of Alexander the Great back on the time. The variety of folks are coming from differents times and historical periods such as the Marneuli Shia mosque, the Rustavi Sioni, an orthodox cathedral and many jewish monuments. In the region you can also see Birtvisi, which is a ruined medieval fortress in Kvemo Kartli, nested within limestone cliffs in the Algeti river gorge.
