Cool yourself with the best handcrafted ice creams at Balaton

2 minutes to read

For most of the people, a symbol of summer is ice cream, and I can't argue with them. Delicious ice cream is, admittedly, what you need on a hot summer day when you are exploring the cities of the "Hungarian Sea", or just enjoying the Sun at the most beautiful beaches of Lake Balaton. I hope I am not the only one who is willing to travel miles for good ice cream because eating a scoop or two at a random place could be disappointing. To make your days at Balaton better, I will show you the best handcrafted ice cream shops, where you can cool yourself at Lake Balaton after sunbathing.

Várkávézó – Szigliget

In order to be the very first who opens and the very last who closes, the young owner of Várkávézó ice cream shop starts his business at 5 am every day and runs it till 10 pm. What I like the best is their fruity ice creams, because they're all made out of real fruit, in contrast to several other shops which use artificial aromas. It is actually like eating a frozen jam.

Florida Ice Cream Shop – Balatonmáriafürdő

Florida has been the best handcrafted ice cream shop on the south side of Lake Balaton for years. The owner and his family invent and prepare ice creams adapting Hungarian people's taste, having an enormous selection. Generally, you can choose from 30 different flavours, so that you don't have to be upset when bumping into a long queue - you'll have time to choose wisely.

Levendula Handcrafted Ice Cream – Tihany

Tihany is the home of lavender in Hungary, so giving lavender as a name to your business is an unwritten rule here. Levendula Handcrafted Ice Cream is actually a franchise, as they have numerous shops throughout the whole country. In summer, they use seasonal fruits, for example, melon, watermelon or peach, but their milky ice creams are also worth a shot.

Márton Cukrászda – Balatonlelle

Márton Cukrászda's ice creams are at least as good as their old recipe for making Hungarian custard cake. The owner has been selling ice cream every summer for more than 30 years; therefore, he is not afraid of taking a risk and inventing new flavors, such as his personal favorite, the "Kinder-variation" or the "Dream of Lelle".

However, even if you are a classic type who orders strawberry and chocolate, these best handcrafted ice cream shops will leave you in amazement for sure. Still, if you like giving new flavors a chance, I'm pretty sure these worthy places won't make you disappointed either. Anyhow, there are numerous ways to cool yourself at Lake Balaton on a hot summer day, and your choice should definitely include ice cream.
