Board games and beer in Ruse

3 minutes to read

Nowadays, many people are interested in movies, memes or cat videos on Instagram, but there are still those who prefer playing board games in their leisure time. This is exactly what inspired the owners of the board games bar in Ruse. Moreover, the bar offers a wide range of different craft beers. Such places are not that common in Bulgaria, which makes them even more enjoyable. So be prepared for an extremely fun experience!

BoardGamesRuse

The place I want to introduce you to today is a bar called the "BoardGamesRuse" and the idea behind it is innovative for the town of Ruse. The bar opened in April 2018 and offered over 100 different games. The goal was to challenge the visitors` creativity, logical thinking and, at the same time, take them away from the screens of computers and phones. The bar is open every Wednesday and Thursday from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m, and every Friday and Saturday from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. On Sundays, the bar is open from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The Games

There are traditional board games that most of the people enjoy, such as chess, Scrabble, Domino, and Monopoly. However, there are others not so popular, but just as fun ones - Agricola, Baerenpark, Conquiztador, Discworld, Dungeons and Dragons, The Game of Thrones: The Board Game, Robinson Crusoe, Scotland Yard, etc. Some of the games are just for fun and would make you laugh, while others are so intellectually challenging that you might lose track of time and space.

The bar also hosts different tournaments and game nights, as well as thematic events, which add up to the excitement of the participants and the visitors.

About the rules

If you are not familiar with places like this, by now you probably are imagining an area with a few boxes of Scrabble and Monopoly lying around. But, here, things are different. The board games are rented in exchange for a small fee, just like you would do with books in a library. On every box, there are rules and guidelines in English and Bulgarian. There is a person called game-guru, who is there to explain the rules of the more complicated or uncommon games and help you organise the board before you start.

Membership cards and fees

There are membership cards and entrance fees for a single day of playing. The price depends on the game that you prefer and how long you want to play. To rent a game for one day (within the working hours) costs 2 euros. A membership card for a month costs 10 euros and with it, you get 10% off of any craft beer sort. There also are memberships for three months, which cost 22 euros. You can get a group membership card by gathering 4, 5 or 6 friends, in which case, there would be a discount on the price.

Beers

Apart from the usual beverages that you can find in every bar and every cafe, in BoardGamesRuse you are presented with a choice of numerous different craft beers. All of them are more or less unique, or at least hard to find elsewhere, just like the bar itself. There are Bulgarian, Belgian, American, and German beers. Some of them have a distinctive aroma, such as coffee, fruit, chocolate or lemon.
