A tour of Ternopil Lake - to the beat of "Ternopil Fine Town"

2 minutes to read

In my articles, I haven't yet mentioned the incredibly beautiful and colourful city of Ternopil. It stands on the Seret River in the middle of western Ukraine. It's a city that amazes everyone with its extremely low prices in restaurants. The place where extremely nice people live, and that even has its pop song "Ternopil Fine Town". All the Ukrainians start to sing it whenever they hear the name of the city. To be honest, even now, while I am writing this article, I am typing to the beat of this song in my head. Moreover, the most interesting sight in the city is Ternopil Lake - an artificial beauty and an urban oasis. If you have an opportunity to visit western Ukraine, then definitely reserve one day to visit Ternopil and tour the lake

History of the heart of Ternopil

Like in every old city, there are a lot of interesting places in Ternopil, but none of them makes such an impression like a promenade of Ternopil Lake. An unusual touristic sight, the lake is a pure heart of the city. Its history is long and more complicated than you think. It was artificially created in the 16th century by Ian Tarnowski, the city founder. During those times, Ternopil was under attacks of Turks and Tatars. So, the primary purpose of this lake was an additional defence of the city castle, the residence of the founder. During the Second World War, the lake was destroyed and renewed only in the 1950s. For the moment, the lake is quite large and currently occupies up to 300 hectares. Its location is also convenient because it is near the city centre.

A romantic oasis - the Island of Lovers in Ternopil

Another interesting spot in Ternopil, the Island of Lovers, is one of the most romantic places in entire Ukraine. It was created during the reconstructions, after the Second World War. You can reach the island by walking down the bridge or on a small ship. In the centre of the island, there is an incredible white gazebo among the beautiful trees. The Island of Lovers justifies its name. People love to spend time there, go on dates, and make the love confessions to each other.

The longest fountain in Ukraine

The longest aeration fountain in Ukraine is located in the city of Ternopil. In total, the fountain consists of 180 nozzles with floodlights. The water flow from each nozzle reaches up to 9 m in length and almost 4 m in height. It's worth seeing this place both in the daytime and in the evening. After all, in the evenings, it is lit up, and you can walk between two beautiful rainbows of lights. The interesting thing is that the aeration fountain has a significant environmental function, as it continually saturates the water with oxygen.

There are several cafes on the waterfront of Ternopil Lake. Also, on one side of the lake, there is a city beach where you can sunbathe and swim when the weather allows. City residents and tourists also have an opportunity to sail on a ship and enjoy the cityscape from the water. If you are in love and enjoy urban nature, you will need to walk around this place to the beat of Ternopil Fine Town and tour the unforgettable Ternopil Lake.
